Sources inside the Raiders camp have informed BringTheBlitz.com that the team intends to select Texas Quarterback Vince Young with the 7th overall pick in the NFL draft. Rumors around the draft have predicted the Raiders to select a wide variety of players with their first round pick, but this is the first somewhat solidified answer that we’ve gotten.

Young became infamous in the 2005 NCAA National Championship game last year as he led his Texas Longhorns to a late-game comeback against the defending National Champion Trojans of USC. Young was a consensus top-3 pick alongside Trojans Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart when scouting began, but his rumored poor scores on the NFL’s “Wonderlic” test raised questions as to whether he was mentally ready to command an NFL offense. Free agency then brought in another interesting scenario as the New Orleans Saints signed Drew Brees and the New York Jets signed Patrick Ramsey to be their apparent starters for the 2006 season. These moves both put yet another kink in Young’s chances of being selected in the top-5.

Though this was bad news for Vince Young’s pocketbook, it was good news for those in the Raiders’ front office. Though they recently signed free agent quarterback Aaron Brooks, most NFL analysts assumed that Brooks is simply being signed as a precautionary measure to ensure that the Raiders would not be without a quarterback heading into the season. It is assumed that if the Raiders select a quarterback in round one, that Brooks would be holding a clipboard in the 2006 season.

With the assumption that Matt Leinart does not fall past the Titans at #3 and barring any trade that would allow another team to select him, the Oakland Raiders will very likely select Vince Young as their first round pick at #7 overall.

Other realistic options include:
- Michael Huff, S, Texas
- Matt Leinart, QB, University of Southern California
- Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
