After losing to the Texas Longhorns in the Rosebowl, things seemed to go downhill for star USC Runningback LenDale White. During Pro-Day at the USC however, LenDale, due to an injury, chose not to do the 40 yard dash and turned down some workouts. In fact, he only lifed the 220lb bar 2 more times than the kicker of the team and that caused some teams to question his toughness and work ethic.
Most scouters had LenDale listed as the #2 or #3 running back in the entire draft yet due to his uncertainy and injury he slid. To make matters worse, it was reported that LenDale failed an NFL drug test at the combine. While that was enough to deter most teams, the Tenessee Titans traded down with the Philadelphia Eagles who got Winston Justice. At pick # 45 overall (13th in the 2nd round), the Titans finally took a chance on another possible problem child in LenDale White.
While some question the pick after getting a questionable character out of Pacman Jones last year, it was simply too good to pass up. Time will tell if this pick will haunt the Titans or make them just that much smarter than the other NFL teams who planned to pass on LenDale completely. "Good luck kid - your going to need it." |
