Every year during a weekend in late April, NFL front office officials, head coaches and personnel directors get together, lock themselves in a room for 48 hours and emerge with a grouping of young college stars that bring new hope and potential to their teams. The NFL Draft has become an iconic event, a cultural phenomena in America, and one of the most highly publicized offseason activities of any sport in the country.
But it doesn't end there. By most accounts, it has only begun. Over 1,000 players declare themselves eligible for the NFL Draft each year, but only about 260 some-odd players get chosen during the actual draft. What comes immediately after is the feeding frenzy known as the "UDFA Period," UDFA standing for Un-drafted Free Agent. At this time, all eligible players who weren't chosen during the draft are free to negotiate and strike a contract with any team who is interested in them. Most of the players signed at this juncture won't become starters, heck, they might not even make the opening day roster. But every year there's always a few gems that slip through the cracks, and you can be sure that NFL GM's will try their damndest to find them.
So now, BringtheBlitz.com brings to you a summation of the best un-drafted talents who didn't hear their names called on TV this weekend but might ultimately find a paying job playing on Sundays.
