After the combine and the start of free agency, time for another mock draft, this time with 3 rounds, all with insight.
Round 1
- Oakland Raiders- JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU- The Raiders have many needs, but the position you have to look to first is quarterback, and the Raiders don't have an established one. Russell is the athletic strong-armed freak quarterback that Al Davis loves, so this pick seems the most likely. There is always the Calvin Johnson possibility, and they do need offensive linemen badly so Joe Thomas is as well, but they should start the process of rebuilding with a new quarterback in JaMarcus Russell.
- Detroit Lions- Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame- Jon Kitna is a temporary fix, and this pick makes sense. With the recent acquirings of George Foster and Tatum Bell, Joe Thomas doesn't seem likely to be the pick here and Adrian Peterson is out of the question. Matt Millen loves his receivers so Calvin Johnson is a possibility here, but it has failed (Charles Rogers, Mike Williams) more times than succeeded (Roy Williams) in recent years, so they should grab their QB for the future in Brady Quinn.
- Cleveland Browns- Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech- The Browns are really hoping that one of the franchise quarterbacks in this draft will be available to them, but if Russell and Quinn are both taken, they'll be looking to make a splash offensively. There would be no bigger splash here than drafting the draft's best prospect in Calvin Johnson. Whoever is the Browns' quarterback in 2007 would sure have a nice array of targets in Johnson, Braylon Edwards, and Kellen Winslow to his array. Other options here are Adrian Peterson, with Jamal Lewis being just a one-year deal, and Joe Thomas to be the core of their offensive line.
- Tampa Bay Buccanneers- Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson- Their likely pair of defensive ends for next year is Greg Spires and Kevin Carter, so with Calvin Johnson gone, taking Gaines Adams is the logical choice for the Buccanneers here. Jon Gruden is reportedly very interested in Amobi Okoye as well, but he would be a reach at #4.
- Arizona Cardinals- Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin- There is no question that if Joe Thomas is available at #5, the Cardinals will take him. The Cardinals have the greatest offensive line problems of any team in the NFL, especially at the offensive tackle position after losing Leonard Davis.
- Washington Redskins- Alan Branch, DT, Michigan- The Redskins need a big defensive tackle to pair alongside Cornelius Griffin inside, and Alan Branch is an outstanding defensive tackle. With Andre Carter aging and Philip Daniels disappointing, they could also draft Jamaal Anderson here to address their defensive end needs, but Branch is the best value and addresses the more oppressing need for the Redskins.
- Minnesota Vikings- Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas- Anderson is the best pick here for the Vikings. There are numerous options for the Vikings- Leon Hall, Ted Ginn, and LaRon Landry are options as well- but Kenechi Udeze was horrendous last year, not even managing a single sack while playing every game, and Darrion Scott is no pure pass rusher either. The team needs to be able to put pressure on the quarterback, and Jamaal Anderson does that.
- Atlanta Falcons- LaRon Landry, S, LSU- LaRon Landry is an outstanding secondary prospect and would be a great complement to a secondary with a starting pair of safeties in aging Lawyer Milloy and Chris Crocker. Landry could make an immediate impact for the Falcons' defense, and is the best pick for the Falcons here.
- Miami Dolphins- Leon Hall, CB, Michigan- The Dolphins' secondary needs a resurgence fast, and Hall is the draft's top secondary prospect. Leon Hall was a star at Michigan and has the skills to be a star at the pro level. Their defensive line is nearly as much in shambles as their secondary, so Adam Carriker and Amobi Okoye are options as well, and they could also need offensive line help so Levi Brown is an option, but they need to grab a star corner first in Leon Hall.
- Houston Texans- Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma- After acquiring Matt Schaub, the Texans' most important need is a running back. With Adrian Peterson available at 10 for the Texans, there's no chance Peterson makes it to 11.
- San Francisco 49ers- Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State- The Niners have a young quarterback who continues to make good progress in Alex Smith, an emerging star at running back Frank Gore, and an emerging star tight end in Vernon Davis, but they still lack an impact wide receiver. Bring in Ted Ginn, and you could be looking at the next great 49ers offense. Defenses would have to be intimidated being forced to line up against Gore, Davis, and Ginn. Adam Carriker and Patrick Willis are also good options here, but Ginn is the best pick.
- Buffalo Bills- Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas- Chris Houston emerged at the combine as a top prospect, and after losing Nate Clements, the Bills are very thin at the cornerback position. Either Chris Houston or Darrelle Revis could be the pick here, but after his great combine performance it is likely Houston will be selected ahead of Revis.
- St.Louis Rams- Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State- It's unquestionable the Rams need an upgrade over Brandon Chillar at outside linebacker, and Timmons is very talented, a player much like his former teammate Ernie Sims. Jarvis Moss is also an option here as is Amobi Okoye, but Timmons is the best pick here for the Rams.
- Carolina Panthers- Patrick Willis, ILB, Mississippi State- Dan Morgan's future is very much in question and Patrick Willis would be an outstanding addition for the Panthers at the 14th pick. Greg Olsen is also an option here, but Willis is the best pick here.
- Pittsburgh Steelers- Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska- Carriker is the perfect fit for the Steelers 3-4, and with the team having needs at both defensive end and outside linebacker, Carriker is a great pick for the Steelers here. Darrelle Revis and Jarvis Moss are also good options but Carriker can't be passed upon here.
- Green Bay Packers- Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal- The Packers lost Ahman Green, leaving Vernand Morency as their #1 back. Vernand Morency isn't exactly a load-carrying type of back, so with top prospect running back Marshawn Lynch on the board, he should definitely be the pick here.
- Jacksonville Jaguars- Reggie Nelson, S, Florida- David Richardson and Gerald Sensabaugh are not going to cut it as a pair of starting safeties, so balancing both value and need, drafting Nelson makes sense here. They could also look to add some flair to the offense at either the receiver or tight end positions by drafting Robert Meachem or Greg Olsen, but Nelson is the best pick here.
- Cincinatti Bengals- Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville- Amobi Okoye is one of the best prospects in the draft and his value is way too good to pass up at the 18th pick. Sam Adams and John Thornton didn't get it done last year and while Okoye already looks to have great ability, he should get even better because he is only 19 years old. Greg Olsen is an option as well, but Okoye is too good to pass up.
- Tennessee Titans- Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee- The piece the Titans offense really needs is a #1 threat for Vince Young, and Robert Meachem is the perfect guy for them here. They grab a guy out of their home state who is a game-breaking threat receiver with blazing speed. The Titans also need corners, but their best pick here is to grab Meachem.
- New York Giants- Levi Brown, OT, Penn State- After cutting Luke Petitgout, the Giants are very thin at offensive tackle. Levi Brown is nice value at the 20th pick, and while the team really needs defensive backs and could use a running back as well, Brown is the best pick here over Darrelle Revis, Michael Griffin, and Michael Bush.
- Denver Broncos- Michael Griffin, S, Texas- With John Lynch only getting older, and Dominique Foxworth better suited as a corner, the Broncos could really use another true safety in the mix, which makes Michael Griffin a great pick for the Broncos here. Ryan Kalil and Jarvis Moss are good options as well, but Griffin is the best pick here.
- Dallas Cowboys- Aaron Ross, CB, Texas- The Cowboys are very thin at the cornerback position with Anthony Henry likely moving to safety, so Aaron Ross makes sense here. They need to be able to put more pressure on the quarterback as well, so Jarvis Moss is an option here, but Ross is the best pick for the Cowboys.
- Kansas City Chiefs- Justin Blalock, T/G, Texas- After Willie Roaf retired last year, they were unable to find an ample replacement, and there is a possbility of Will Shields retiring as well. That's where Justin Blalock comes in. Blalock could help shore up the line at right guard or right tackle. They could also go with Dwayne Bowe here, as the Chiefs still lack a #1 guy.
- New England Patriots- Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh- The Patriots have a good starting pair of corners in Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs, but have little behind them, and they are thin at safety with Rodney Harrison nearing the end of his career, so going secondary is their best option here. Brandon Merriweather might be the best pick here, but the Patriots are known to stay away from players with troubled pasts, so Revis gets the nod here. Jarvis Moss could be an option here as well at outside linebacker.
- New York Jets- Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB, Florida- The Jets could really use some help on the pass rush, and Jarvis Moss will supply that. Moss is a great value at 25 and could be an immediate contributor. They could also look to upgrade at tight end with Greg Olsen, but Moss is the best pick here.
- Philadelphia Eagles- Brandon Merriweather, S, Miami (FL)- Brian Dawkins is aging, the Eagles have lost Michael Lewis, and Sean Considine is not their ideal strong safety, so drafting the very talented Brandon Merriweather makes sense here. Merriweather does have a list of off-field issues which could turn the Eagles away, but aside from his legal troubles, Merriweather is a great value pick late in the first round. Dwayne Bowe and Paul Posluszny are good options here as well, but Merriweather makes a lot of sense.
- New Orleans Saints- Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (FL)- They did sign Eric Johnson in free agency to address their tight end issues, but Greg Olsen is outstanding value at the 27th pick, so he may be just too good for the Saints to pass up.
- New England Patriots- Brian Leonard, FB, Rutgers- David Harris is an option here, but the Patriots go ahead and bring in a backfield mate for Laurence Maroney in Brian Leonard. Leonard is a great talent who can play running back or fullback and both be a running and pass-catching threat.
- Baltimore Ravens- Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn- The Ravens really need to bring in a guard in the draft and it is rumored Jonathan Ogden may opt towards retirement, so Ben Grubbs is the best pick here.
- San Diego Chargers- Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC- The Chargers lack a big playmaker at wide receiver, and Dwayne Jarrett is just that. Vincent Jackson seems to be coming into his own, and pairing Jarrett with Jackson would give Philip Rivers a great starting pair of receivers for years to come.
- Chicago Bears- Tony Ugoh, OT, Arkansas- The Chicago Bears' biggest need is offensive tackle, and the Bears have many options here including Joe Staley and Arron Sears, but the best offensive tackle available is Tony Ugoh. Ugoh would bring some much-needed youth and instant contribution to help the offensive line protect Rex Grossman.
- Indianapolis Colts- Jon Beason, OLB, Miami (FL)- With Cato June unlikely to return and Gilbert Gardner not being the answer to replace him, the Colts should look to outside linebacker here and draft Jon Beason. They also need help at stopping the run so DeMarcus Tyler is another good option, but Beason is the best pick here.
Round 2
- Oakland Raiders- Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU- Bowe is outstanding value at the start of the second round, and pairing JaMarcus Russell with his favorite target at LSU in Dwayne Bowe would make Russell feel much more comfortable in his transition to the NFL. Joe Staley and Ryan Kalil are options here as well, but Bowe cannot be passed up.
- Detroit Lions- Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia- After losing James Hall, defensive end is a major need for the Lions and Charles Johnson is a good pick early in the second round. They could also look to draft a corner in Eric Wright here.
- Tampa Bay Buccanneers- Jason Hill, WR, Washington State- After missing out on Calvin Johnson in round 1, they address their wide receiver needs in round 2 with Jason Hill. Hill is talented and could be a very good addition to the Bucs' moderately slim receiving corps.
- Cleveland Browns- Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan State- The Browns added another great target in round 1 in Johnson, but they need a better quarterback than Charlie Frye to get them the ball. That makes Drew Stanton the pick for the Browns here, although DeMarcus Tyler is a very good option here.
- Chicago Bears- Michael Bush, RB, Louisville- After trading Thomas Jones to move up to this pick, they may just look to use it to get another running back to pair with Cedric Benson. Michael Bush could be just the guy. They could also opt to look for a tight end upgrade with Zach Miller.
- Arizona Cardinals- Ryan Kalil, C, USC- The Cardinals need more than just one upgrade on their offensive line, so although they drafted Joe Thomas in round 1, they go with best pick available in round 2 with another offensive lineman in Ryan Kalil. Matt Leinart is familiar to taking snaps from Kalil from their days at USC, so this is a great pick for the Cardinals.
- Atlanta Falcons- DeMarcus Tyler, DT, NC State- The Falcons would really like to bring in a better defensive tackle to pair with Rod Coleman, and DeMarcus Tyler is good value falling to the 2nd round. Sidney Rice is also an option here, but Tyler should not be passed up.
- Miami Dolphins- Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee- With a quite aging defensive line, Justin Harrell is a very good pick for the Dolphins here, and his value is too good to pass up. They also could use offensive line help, so Arron Sears and Joe Staley are options here as well.
- Minnesota Vikings- Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina- Troy Williamson has struggled with catching the ball, and with Williamson struggling to be the deep threat he was supposed to be, they need to bring in another potential deep threat. Sidney Rice is a good pick in early round 2, and is the best pick for the Vikings here.
- San Francisco 49ers- Anthony Spencer, DE, Purdue- The 49ers need help on their pass rush, so after passing on Adam Carriker in round 1, the pick here should be either Anthony Spencer or Victor Abiamiri. David Harris is an option as well, but they need to improve their pass rush.
- Buffalo Bills- David Harris, MLB, Michigan- There is talk of moving Angelo Crowell to the middle, but Crowell is better suited to play the outside in tandem with Takeo Spikes and Keith Ellison. David Harris is the best pick at 43 for the Bills here. They could also look to their offensive line with Arron Sears or tight end with Zach Miller, but Harris is the best pick.
- Atlanta Falcons- Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State- After passing on Ted Ginn in round 1, they need to draft a receiver in round 2, so after going defense with their first two picks, Anthony Gonzalez is the best pick here.
- Carolina Panthers- Zach Miller, TE, Arizona State- The Panthers are in need of an upgrade at tight end, and Zach Miller is nice value in the middle of round 2. Eric Weddle is an option here as an upgrade at safety, and Joe Staley is an option at tackle, but Zach Miller is the best pick here.
- Pittsburgh Steelers- Eric Wright, CB, UNLV- The Steelers really need some more youth at cornerback, and with Eric Wright and Bryant McFadden the Steelers would have two young cornerbacks with great potential to hopefully develop into top-of-the-line cornerbacks.
- Green Bay Packers- Aundrae Allison, WR, South Carolina- Greg Jennings had an outstanding rookie year, and Donald Driver has always been reliable, but they have hardly anyone at the position behind them. Aundrae Allison is the best receiver on the board and would be a great addition for the Packers. Eric Weddle could also be an option here as an upgrade at safety, but Allison is the best pick.
- Jacksonville Jaguars- Paul Posluszny, OLB, Penn State- Mike Peterson is aging and coming off injury, and along with Peterson and Daryl Smith there isn't a whole lot else there, so with Posluszny, a possible first-rounder, still available, he is the best selection here.
- Cincinatti Bengals- H.B Blades, ILB, Pittsburgh- With Brian Simmons out of town, the team has a very thin and raw linebacker corps, with David Pollack and Odell Thurman both with very questionable futures, and with many guys like Rashad Jeanty and Ahmad Brooks who may not be able to be counted on. That makes a linebacker selection a necessity with no more picks on day one and H.B Blades is the best linebacker available here.
- Tennessee Titans- Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State- The Titans signed Nick Harper, but with Pac-Man's future with the team still in jeopardy, bringing another young cornerback is a good idea. Victor Abiamiri, Quinn Pitcock, and Tony Hunt are options here as well.
- New York Giants- Justin Durant, OLB, Hampton- With Carlos Emmons and LaVar Arrington both sent packing, the Giants opened up a big need at outside linebacker. Justin Durant is an outstanding athlete and was a Division 1-AA standout at Hampton, and is the best pick for the Giants here.
- St. Louis Rams- Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio State- The duo of LaRoi Glover and Jimmy Kennedy hasn't exactly been spectacular, so Pitcock is a good pick for the Rams here. Pitcock was at one point considered a high first-rounder but his stock continues to plummet and is now a second-rounder at best- still, Pitcock is a good value here. They also need cornerback help, so Josh Wilson is an option as well.
- Dallas Cowboys- Victor Abiamiri, DE, Notre Dame- The Cowboys' pass rush is nothing special, so taking one of the best players available here in Victor Abiamiri is a good pick for the Cowboys. Abiamiri is a first-round possibility, and by getting him in the second round the Cowboys get a great value and a great defensive end to benefit their pass rush.
- Kansas City Chiefs- Turk McBride, DT, Tennessee- McBride becomes the 2nd Tennessee defensive tackle taking in the round. This may be a bit high for McBride, but the Chiefs are in desperate need of defensive tackles and there aren't any wide receivers worth taking here either. Craig Davis is an option, but they likely wait on their receivers.
- Seattle Seahawks- Josh Beekman, G, Boston College- The loss of Steve Hutchinson hurt this team last year, so with their first pick they bring in a true replacement for Hutchinson in Josh Beekman. Scott Chandler is also an option here.
- Denver Broncos- Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan- Joe Staley is a steal late in the second round and the team has a huge need at offensive tackle after trading George Foster. Tim Crowder is an option as well, but passing up Joe Staley would be a big mistake for the Broncos here.
- Philadelphia Eagles- Stewart Bradley, OLB, Nebraska- The Eagles still need upgrades at the linebacker position so Stewart Bradley is the best selection here. Tim Crowder and Craig Davis could be options here as well.
- New Orleans Saints- Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland- The Saints need some youth in their secondary, and Josh Wilson is a very talented cornerback prospect worthy of being selected late in the second round. Tim Crowder and Rufus Alexander are options as well here, but Wilson is the best pick.
- New York Jets- David Irons, CB, Auburn- Justin Miller isn't really a true #1 cornerback and there is little behind Miller, so cornerback is a need the Jets must address. David Irons' stock has been rising since the Senior Bowl and late in the second round is a very good selection for the Jets. Scott Chandler and Ray McDonald could be options here as well.
- Miami Dolphins- Arron Sears, OT, Tennessee- Sears is a great value late in round 2 who the Dolphins should not think twice about here.
- Baltimore Ravens- LaMarr Woodley, DE/OLB, Michigan- With the loss of Adalius Thomas, they need to bring in a new playmaker to take his place. LaMarr Woodley is a great option here as a 3-4 outside linebacker. They should look to linebacker here- Tim Crowder and Rufus Alexander could be options as well.
- San Diego Chargers- Eric Weddle, S, Utah- Weddle is very good value late in the second round and the Chargers are in strong need of a safety. There should be no hesitation here.
- New York Jets- Ray McDonald, DT, Florida- Ray McDonald is a strong talent who can play either defensive end or defensive tackle and is a great pick for the Jets here. Scott Chandler is also an option.
- Tampa Bay Buccanneers- Manuel Ramirez, G, Texas Tech- The loss of Sean Mahan leaves them a hole at guard, but the strong Manuel Ramirez could very well fill that hole. They also need defensive tackle help, so Ryan McBean and Brandon Mebane could be options as well, but Ramirez is the best pick for the Bucs.
Round 3
- Oakland Raiders- James Marten, OT, Boston College- They grabbed their quarterback in the first round, and hooked him up with his favorite target in the second. Having yet to address the offensive line, that's the route they have to take in the third round with James Marten. They could also look to guard with Marshal Yanda or center with Samson Satele.
- Detroit Lions- Buster Davis, MLB, Florida State- Davis is great value early in the third round and fills a need at middle linebacker. They could also look to a cornerback in Tanard Jackson here.
- Cleveland Browns- Tim Crowder, DE, Texas- The Browns have many needs on defense, and defensive end is one of them. The best strategy would be to take the highest defensive player on the draft board, because they have many concerns on their defense. Tim Crowder is the best pick available for them, but Ryan McBean, Rufus Alexander, Brandon Siler, and Tanard Jackson are all options as well.
- Tampa Bay Buccanneers- Ryan McBean, DT, Oklahoma State- After losing Booger McFarland, they opened a big hole at defensive tackle. After filling other needs with their first three picks, taking a defensive tackle on Day 1 is a necessity, so Ryan McBean is the pick here.
- Arizona Cardinals- Brian Robison, DE, Texas- Robison made a name for himself at the Scouting Combine, and is just the type of pass rusher the Cardinals need. Quentin Moses is also an option here.
- Denver Broncos- Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia- There was a time when Quentin Moses was considered a top 10 prospect in this draft. But a horrible senior season and combine showing hurt his stock immensely, and with the Broncos on the clock with the 70th pick, he finds himself still waiting. Moses is a risk, but he showed his talent in his junior year and could turn out to be a big steal if he falls this far.
- Miami Dolphins- Aaron Rouse, S, Virginia Tech- Jason Allen has been a disappointment, leaving this team in need of an upgrade at safety. Aaron Rouse is a very good player who could possibly even play some outside linebacker and while he may not be a true safety he will play hard and make plays. They could also opt for a running back here to pair with Ronnie Brown in Antonio Pittman.
- Minnesota Vikings- Brandon Siler, MLB, Florida- The loss of Napoleon Harris leaves the Vikings with a hole at middle linebacker, making Siler their best choice here. They could also look for a cornerback in Tanard Jackson here.
- Houston Texans- Tanard Jackson, CB, Syracuse- After Dunta Robinson, the Texans don't have much at corner. Tanard Jackson is a versatile player who plays cornerback and safety and would be a great addition for the Texans. They could also grab a target for Matt Schaub here in Craig Davis or a guard in Marshal Yanda.
- Buffalo Bills- Tony Hunt, RB, Penn State- The Bills have their choice of running backs here, with Tony Hunt, Kenny Irons, Antonio Pittman, and Brandon Jackson all still available and all great values in the third round. Hunt is a very productive running back who could go as early as the high second round and is a steal in the third round. With Willis McGahee ousted, the Bills need a running back, and they have plenty of good options here.
- Atlanta Falcons- Mason Crosby, K, Colorado- Morten Andersen is gone and Michael Koenen is too inaccurate to kick field goals so Mason Crosby is a good pick for the Falcons here. Usually kickers aren't taken on the first day, but Crosby is one of the best kickers to come around in a long time and is worth it here for the Falcons. Dan Bazuin and Zak DeOssie are also options here.
- San Francisco 49ers- Kareem Brown, DT, Miami (FL)- Melvin Oliver is more of a backup defensive tackle, so the Niners should look to draft a defensive tackle on Day 1. Kareem Brown is their best option here. They could also look for a linebacker here in Zak DeOssie.
- Pittsburgh Steelers- Samson Satele, C, Hawaii- The Steelers need a replacement for Jeff Hartings, so the pick here should be either Samson Satele or Leroy Harris.
- Green Bay Packers- Sabby Piscatelli, S, Oregon State- Marquand Manuel has been a disappointment, so they grab a safety here in Piscatelli. They could also go interior line here with Leroy Harris.
- Jacksonville Jaguars- Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford- The best option for this team may be to go after David Carr, but regardless drafting a young QB is a good idea with the team seemingly lacking their long-term starter. This pick should come down to Edwards and Troy Smith, but Edwards is the better pro prospect.
Cincinatti Bengals- pick used on Ahmad Brooks in supplemental draft
- Tennessee Titans- Antonio Pittman, RB, Ohio State- The Titans lost Travis Henry, and whether Chris Brown or LenDale White has much of a future is truly in question, so bringing in another running back makes sense. Antonio Pittman was productive at Ohio State splitting time with Chris Wells and is a steal in the middle of the third round. Dan Bazuin is an option here as well.
- New York Giants- Brandon Jackson, RB, Nebraska- The Giants have Brandon Jacobs, but with the loss of Tiki Barber it is a good idea to bring in another back to share the load. Jackson is an underrated back who is a legitimate second-round prospect and gets the nod for the Giants over Kenny Irons here.
- St.Louis Rams- Travarous Bain, CB, Hampton- The loss of Travis Fisher leaves the team with virtually no depth behind Tye Hill and Fakhir Brown. Travarous Bain is one of the best Division 1-AA prospects in the draft and is a good selection for the Rams here. Marshal Yanda would be a good option here as well to make up for the loss of Adam Timmerman.
- Carolina Panthers- Marshal Yanda, G, Iowa- Yanda can contribute at guard or tackle- he would make a contribution to the Panthers immediately in some way. John Wendling is also an option here at safety.
- Kansas City Chiefs- Craig Davis, WR, LSU- They passed on Dwayne Bowe in the first and with his teammate Craig Davis still available in the third, it is the route the Chiefs have to take.
- Seattle Seahawks- Scott Chandler, TE, Iowa- With Jerramy Stevens out in Seattle, they need a long-term replacement. Scott Chandler made himself a legitimate second-rounder with his Senior Bowl performance and available late in the third the Seahawks need to take Chandler.
- Denver Broncos- Kenny Irons, RB, Auburn- The Broncos have Travis Henry and Mike Bell, but the Broncos are known for developing running backs and bringing in another running back does not hurt them. Leroy Harris and Jonathan Wade are options here as well.
- Dallas Cowboys- Brandon Mebane, NT, Cal- The Cowboys need an upgrade over Jason Ferguson in the middle and Mebane is a gap-stopper. They could also go receiver here with Steve Smith.
- New Orleans Saints- Steve Smith, WR, USC- Marques Colston and Devery Henderson did very well last year, but they need to add depth with the loss of Joe Horn. Steve Smith was a very reliable target at USC and is a great guy to add in to the mix.
- New York Jets- Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware- The Jets need an upgrade at tight end, and Ben Patrick was a 1-AA standout and great talent. Division III standout tight end Michael Allan is also an option.
- Philadelphia Eagles- Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State- Donovan McNabb has struggled with injuries and Troy Smith could learn from him as well. If they don't want to threaten McNabb's presence at QB, Paul Williams is an option as well.
- New England Patriots- Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown- DeOssie is from the area, his father is a former Patriot, and the Patriots need to add youth to their linebacker core. Rufus Alexander is an option here as well.
- Buffalo Bills- Michael Allan, TE, Whitworth- Allan is unproven, as he played his college ball at Whitworth Academy, a Division III school, but he was a star at the combine and is worthy of being picked on the first day. They also could still use offensive line help, so Andy Alleman and Allen Barbre are options as well.
- San Diego Chargers- Anthony Waters, ILB, Clemson- The Chargers lost Donnie Edwards so they can bring in a linebacker to compete for the spot with Matt Wilhelm in Anthony Waters. They could also grab a cornerback who could also contribute as a returner here with Jonathan Wade.
- Chicago Bears- Paul Williams, WR, Fresno State- The Bears have fine starters at receivers, but bringing in more playmakers never hurts, especially for a team with very few needs.
- Indianapolis Colts- Darius Walker, RB, Notre Dame- The Colts bring in a running back to pair with Addai here in Darius Walker. Lorenzo Booker and Antonio Johnson are options here as well.
