Titans have need for depth in 2007 Draft

The Tennessee Titans at one point during the offseason were on many free-agent players' short-list of teams they would like to join should the timing and more importantly, the money. However, when it came down to it, the Titans couldn't handle their own business in Nashville when it came to the contracts of Drew Bennett, Bobby Wade and Travis Henry - all three top players at their position for the team both statisticly and in leadership.

With that being said, the Titans have a need at several positions in the draft which would include wide receiver, running back, cornerback and defensive end. Even with the dynamic play of Pacman Jones, off-field issues have troubled the young star and his season, or at least part of it, could be in jeopardy which is a cause of concern for Mike Reinfeldt and Jeff Fisher when draft day comes.

While it would seem quite obvious that the Titans will go for a wideout with their first pick, 19th overall, if the situation doesn't improve at conerback or running back, the Titans might suprise some people in Round 1. However, the Titans may solidify their running back position by signing unrestricted free-agent Corey Dillion or restricted free-agent Michael Turner but that would come at a cost. San Diego has tenured the highest possible offer to Turner meaning Tennessee would give up a 1st and 3rd round pick for him, even though he is still unproven as a starter and at this point is a career backup at the RB position. Dillion on the other hand would be a good choice as not only a starting or back splitting time with LenDale White but also as a leader in the clubhouse.

Assuming the Titans sign a RB during the final week of free-agency and head into the draft with their needs mostly met, it's almost certain defensive end, cornerback or more likely, wide receiver would be their first pick.

With that said, the Titans may go for speedy Ted Ginn Jr. should he be available, though on most people's boards he has jumped into the Top 15 and possibly out of the reach of the Titans. Meachem, a Tennesee Volunteer at UT would also be a good pick and posesses the skills necessary to make it in the NFL. At 6-3, 210lbs, Meachem also carries a frame similar to that of Bennett and could go up high for Vince Young when needed.

Overall, the Titans have a lot of draft needs and look to bolster their wide reciever corp and also speed up and enhance their defense, ranked last in the NFL and next to last in sacks.
