Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints
No team has been more disappointing than the Saints over the first two weeks of the year. With blowout losses to both the Colts and Buccaneers, New Orleans is not looking anything like what we saw in 2006 and what fantasy owners expected in 2007. Brees has thrown just one touchdown compared to three interceptions over the first two weeks of the season. Thankfully for the Saints, their upcoming schedule is very favorable including home games against the Titans and Panthers. Brees’ stock hasn’t been this low since he was fighting to keep his job in San Diego and now might be the time to make your move to pick up this pro bowl QB. Most fantasy experts had Brees near the top of their pre-season rankings because he is far too talented to be in a situation like this for much longer. Expect things to turn around, at least offensively, for the Saints.

Phillip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers

After a disappointing loss in New England, some fantasy owners may be re-thinking Phillip Rivers’ fantasy value. This is when you should jump to put him on your team if you don’t have a better QB. The Chargers have two very winnable games over the next two weeks against Green Bay and Kansas City. Norv Turner loves to throw the ball in his offenses, especially to his running backs, and Phillip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson will be looking to re-assert their dominance.

Bush
Reggie Bush is far too talented to continue to be stopped by opposing defenses.

Reggie Bush, RB, New Orleans Saints

So somebody in your league spent a first round pick on Reggie Bush and they’re feeling the early-season effects of such a risky pick? That’s great news for you. Though his fantasy owners are still going to be looking for a pretty penny in return, this might be the lowest point in which Reggie Bush’s stock will ever be. This is a guy who caught 88 passes in 2006 and added over 1,300 yards and 8 touchdowns in his rookie season – this slump is a mirage. Sean Payton needs to make this offense more dynamic, like it was in ’06, and he will use Reggie Bush to do that.

Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis Rams

The consensus number two overall player in fantasy football has been a massive disappointment thus far in 2007. With Orlando Pace going down and the Rams themselves going to 0-2 on the year, everyone in St. Louis is looking around and wondering “what happened?” Steven Jackson has just 157 yards and 0 touchdowns over the first two games of the year. After his huge 2006 season, it would be difficult for things to get any worse for this dynamic player. Orlando Pace’s injury was a set-back, but many people fail to remember that the Rams were without Pace for the entire 2nd half of 2006 – a time when Steven Jackson was busy asserting himself as one of the elite fantasy players in this league. A favorable remaining schedule will absolutely benefit Steven Jackson and the Rams offense, even if the team as a whole doesn’t live up to their expectations.

Lee Evans, WR, Buffalo Bills

One of the hottest wide receivers heading into this season was Buffalo’s Lee Evans. Despite being thrown at 12 times over the first two weeks, Evans has caught just 4 passes for 22 yards over that time-span. These numbers, obviously, are a huge disappointment. The one thing to remember when looking at Evans’ stats, though, is that he has had two extremely difficult match-ups over the first two weeks of the year with games against Denver and Pittsburgh – two of the league’s best pass defenses. Evans has another tough match-up in week three against New England, but his schedule gets significantly easier in weeks 4 and 5 when they face the Jets and Cowboys – two teams that have been killed by the pass in the first two weeks of the year.

Mark Clayton, WR, Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens struggled in week one with Steve McNair behind center in a losing effort against the Bengals. McNair looked lost, made bad throws and some questionable decisions. When McNair was injured late in the game, the Ravens went to Kyle Boller. Boller actually looked better than McNair and carried that momentum into week two against the Jets. Though Mark Clayton is yet to do anything fantasy-wise, he is still one of the starting wide receivers on a team that can really only get better on offense. Clayton is very talented and has been successful in the red-zone in the past. His upcoming match-ups will be against the Cardinals, Browns, 49ers, Rams, and Bills and it wouldn’t be hard to get Clayton off the hands of his owner right now, so now might be time to get him for extremely cheap.
